Energy from Waste

Energy form Waste PlantMuch of the municipal solid waste (MSW) in the UK currently goes to landfill and with the Landfill Directive, there is an imperative to redirect this waste and gain energy from it.  The Renewables Obligation provides support for electricity produced from the biomass content of waste treated in gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion and good quality combined heat and power plants.

The Marchwood plant is one of three Energy Recovery Facilities in the Hampshire County Council area.

Members of the Caledon Green team identified, provided and developed the site for the energy from waste plant and also supported the planning process, in co-operation with Veolia Environmental Services.

The Marchwood facility can provide up to 16MW of electricity per hour, enough for 22,600 homes, or over 31% of all the homes in the New Forest.
